The Turkish student was detained by the Department of Homeland Security following her involvement in public protests.
This week a district judge ordered the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to produce Ph.D. student Rumeysa Ozturk and explain why she was detained by Immigrations and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
The Department of Homeland Security confirmed that investigations found Ozturk had “engaged in activities in support of Hamas,” referring to Ozturk’s previous involvement in protests against violence in Gaza.
Ozturk is a Turkish national attending Tufts University with a student visa. She was arrested outside an apartment building in Massachusetts and ICE transported her to a facility in Louisiana. The court issued a warning saying that transporting her across state lines violated the court order.
“A visa is a privilege, not a right,” a DHS spokesperson said. “Glorifying and supporting terrorists who kill Americans is grounds for visa issuance to be terminated. This is common sense security.”
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For all federal judges to seek God’s perfect justice as they carry out their role to interpret the law.
- For the officials in the Department of Homeland Security as they seek to protect the nation.
- For God to be at work in the hearts of minds of all federal officials.
